The Kingdom of God
THE KINGDOM OF GOD
Jesus Christ first preaching after His initiation was at Galilee – He said “…Repent, for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand…” (Matt 4:17). Please try to understand this verse – Jesus said to ‘repent’ – He never said to make a wish or to follow Him blindly but said to ‘repent’. Repent is to feel sorry for the actions committed before and to leave everything as it is – to leave all this material worlds gratifications, enjoyments, sorrow, sin everything – whatever one possess which they think belongs to them. Once these worldly possessions become nil – then surrendering ones thoughts at the feet of our Lord becomes very easy. If one surrenders – then our Lord will lead us towards the eternal path towards the Kingdom of heaven.
Jesus Christ never said that the kingdom of God is far away to enter but He said it is here – here in our own hands. Here our own hands refer to do meditation – because that is the starting requirement of a spiritual seeker. While meditating, the will power is focused at the “inner eye” – then there appears a bright light. This light has been referred throughout the Bible but most of us compare this inner light with the material worlds light. God has created the Sun, Moon and all the planets including the stars to give light to this material world but there is another light that God has created to illuminate the darkness of the inner world. This light can be seen only through meditation.
While starting to do meditation one has to close the eyes – after closing the eyes it becomes dark inside. This darkness, the Bible says “…the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned…” (Matt 4:16). The above verse indicates that the people were doing their meditation and due to their prolonged meditation they achieved a strong will power and they have seen the light. “Sat in the region” expresses the place of concentration i.e. the “inner eye”. This light cannot be explained by this worldly words – it should be understood that the light is equal to thousands and thousands of sun’s brilliance.
And those people who saw the light came to know that this light was the light which will save them from the clutches of death – so they followed Jesus Christ. Jesus preaching was so simple and straight forward, easily understandable to those who really accepted Him as their saviour. Many prophets before Jesus never preached like Jesus simple and daringly. The words of Jesus stirred the peoples mind and that is the reason “…great multitudes followed Him…” (Matt 4:25) –His teachings was aimed towards poor pagans, the sick, the demon possessed, the epileptics, and the paralytics etc., in order to make them easily understand His gospels – He used simple language. To attract the multitudes He has done some miracles so that they will believe that He is the son of God. He went further and healed all the sick and by their healings their faith on Jesus was unshakable.
Jesus said “…blessed are the poor in spirit, for there is the kingdom of heaven…”(Matt 5:3). The spirit is of gods. God dwells in us through spirit. Spirit is Holy which means one should not be proud of the physical body which one possess – this body is of Gods because He dwells in us through spirit. One should be humble enough to accept the spirit – once the spirit is in us then there won’t be any quarrelling with others for petty reasons. If we are humble; the kingdom of God is ours – once we repent everything and surrender at the will of God, the spirit purifies everything - so that we can enter into the kingdom of heaven.
“…blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted…” (Matt 5:4). A spiritual seeker in order to attain salvation mourns daily – he will feel the separation from God and unable to bear the separation he mourns – his heart aches and suffers, the pain without Lord Jesus grace makes him mourn more and more until he finds Jesus Christ – once he finds Jesus he will be comforted by the internal bliss whish God bestows him.
“…blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth…” (Matt 5:5) The anxiousness to meet God burns inside every earnest seeker but without knowing how to reach Jesus they stumble in this world and remain calm. To find Jesus – meditation is the only remedy and after finding Him it will not be possible to be without Him even for a moment. Here patience is the unwritten law for the spiritual seekers – a seeker has to wait until the door to the celestial world is opened. Patience comes only if one has the eagerness to meet the Lord and after finding Him the seeker will neglect all this material world possession and, merge one with Him.
“…blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled…” (Matt 5:6). While the eagerness to accept Lord Jesus as our saviour grows inside our heart, one forgets everything around him – the aim will be only to meet Jesus. Hunger and thirst is for this physical body which requires to be nourished often but the eternal hunger and thirst for righteousness will never make one tired. If one waits patiently – ignoring the bodily needs then they will be filled with the eternal bliss of milk and honey.
